Avondale Road Work Scheduled!
King County has informed us that the contractor who will be doing the next generation grinding are mobilizing equipment from Minnesota and Portland as well as crews from California for an anticipated start date on Avondale’s test patch of either Monday April 12th or Monday April 19th.
Weather permitting, they anticipate completing the grinding within 5 days.

Will the road area right in front of 144th Pl be ground? There are paint marks indicating that the work would begin at that point. My concern is focused on a large break in the pavement joint near the front of our property which causes the large trucks, especially when they are empty, to make a very loud rattling when they hit that damaged area.
Hi Wally
Right now, the only grinding scheduled is between Northeast 146th Way and Northeast 151st Street. That area was selected by King County Roads to test Next Generation Grinding as a possible solution to repair Avondale Road. The citizens for a Better Avondale group advocated for asphalt rubber but the County chose to test grinding as a better method of noise mitigation because of the concrete panels on the roadway. We don’t know when (AND IF) future improvements (grinding or resurfacing) will be funded. The best thing to do is voice your concerns to the County (about needed repairs to Avondale and your “crack” in particular). It’s important that they hear the concerns of residents. In some cases, maintenance can be done on the road to temporarily repair the cracks and dips such as the recent asphalt patch added north of 151st. You can email Rick Brater at the King County Road Dept. regarding your concerns (Rick.Brater@kingcounty.gov).
